Hi There – we’re Chrissy & David –
Welcome to the 1898 B.W. McBee House in the little town of Paw Paw, WV. Located in the eastern panhandle on the banks of the Potomac River, the town was incorporated in 1891. For more than 80 years it was the home of a large tannery operation, that produced the finest machine belt leather in the world, as well as the internationally-renowned “Mountaineer Apple,” which was patented by the Consolidated Orchard Company in 1924.
While we are not West Virginians by birth, we are both Mountaineers by choice. After David completed a 20-year career in the Air Force, we had our first opportunity to choose our next home and in 2014 made the decision to settle “over the mountain” on the more rugged western side of Cacapon Mountain – a short drive from Paw Paw. David, a registered architect, leaned into the local history and has been active in researching and documenting our area’s built history since 2016. Chrissy is a writer and poet who just happens to have more than 30 years of experience as a cybersecurity consultant.
In the summer of 2023 David – through his historic preservation consulting firm, Cacapon Preservation Solutions – purchased The McBee House, and the adjacent church. A year was spent completely renovating the house and reworking the interior to accommodate three bedrooms, each with their own private bath. The house sleeps up to six people.
The house offers a full kitchen, WiFI, guest laundry, living room, a dining room to accommodate a sit-down dinner for six, and inside secure bike storage. While the house was done with GAP and C&O Canal through cyclists in mind, we believe the house will fit every guest’s needs.
We hope to see you in Paw Paw soon and take in the natural beauty and amazing history of our little piece of heaven “over the mountain”.
